Keep America Beautiful of New Hanover County is a local non-profit housed in the New Hanover County Department of Parks, Gardens, and Senior Resources. We are a certified affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, Inc. and promote wise solid waste practices, litter prevention, and community beautification.
New Hanover County was certified as a “Clean Community” member of Keep America Beautiful, Inc. in 1978 by the Chamber of Commerce and funded by a grant from the Rotary Club. Known then as the Clean Community Commission, it was later funded as an outside agency by the County until July 1, 1992. Keep America Beautiful of New Hanover County is now a part of the New Hanover County Department of Parks, Gardens, and Senior Resources. It is directed by a 15 member Advisory Board. Keep America Beautiful, Inc. is a national non-profit public education organization dedicated since 1953 to engaging individuals to take greater responsibility for improving their local community environments. For half a century, Keep America Beautiful has been the nation’s leading community improvement organization successfully implementing an effective, systematic strategy for reducing waste, preventing litter and beautifying communities nationwide. Our national affiliate network involves more than 565 town, city, and county affiliates and 22 statewide programs, and this enthusiastic network leads the way in protecting and enhancing local environments in more than 15,000 communities.
